Various actions of the players and the dealer in Blackjack
Actions of the players
1. Stand (enough). We will assume, at the player it was formed a combination of the cards which sum is close to 21. If to take one more card, chances to receive too many points (and to lose) are rather great. In this situation the player says Stand, refusing, from an additional card or does a negative gesture: horizontal movement of a palm towards the dealer or the following player.
Example: The player has 8 and Ace - the sum of 19 points, hence, Stand. Really, any card except 2 will lead to too many points.
2. Hit (still). We will assume that the player’s cards have formed a card combination, which sum is insignificant. Then the player can demand an additional card (cards) for what he speaks to dealer “Hit” or shows a finger on the cards. Also it is possible to make a palm invitation gesture (palm movement to itself) or to knock with a finger on a table.
Example 1: The first two cards of the player are 3 and 4 (the sum is 7). The action of the player: Hit. The dealer hands over the third card. We will assume, the player has received an Ace (11 points). The combination of cards of the player gives the sum of 18 points, close to 21, therefore Stand.
Example 2: The first two cards of the player are 3 and 5 (the sum is 8). The action of the player: Hit. The dealer hands over the third card, we will admit 2. The combination of cards of the player gives the sum of 10 points that is obviously not enough for a prize. Therefore the player says again Hit or does corresponding gesture by a palm or fingers. The dealer hands over the fourth card, we will admit the Queen (10 points). The player has 20 points, therefore Stand.
3. Double down (double). We will assume the player’s first two cards have formed a combination, which for reception of the sum close to 21 suffices only one card by the player’s calculations. For example the player has on the first two cards the sum 9, 10 or 11 and the probability of reception of a ten on the third card is great. The player cans double the bet, establishing additional playing chips near to the initial bet. Attention! Having made a Double down, the player receives only one card.
Example: The first two cards of the player are 4 and 7 (the sum is 11). By estimates of the player the probability to receive 10 is great enough. The action of the player: Double down, establishing on a table, near to the initial bet, the additional one equal on size to the initial one. The dealer hands over to the player the third, the last card, we will admit 8. The sum of the player is 19 points. The dealer hands over cards to himself and receives the sum 18. In this situation the player has won the double bet. If the dealer has 20 points, the player loses both bets.
4. Split (divide). We will assume, the first two cards of the player have the identical importance, for example two six. The player has the right to divide these cards and to play on two hands. Action of player Split (specifying to the dealer two fingers), establishing the additional bet equal on size to the initial one. The dealer divides the six and distributes cards to each broken card.
Example: After division of the cards, the dealer hands over to the first six an Ace (the sum is 17), and to the second 5 and 8 (the sum is 19). The Player says Stand on both hands. The dealer hands over the cards. If the dealer has received a combination of 16 points - the player has won under both bets. If the dealer has 20 points - the player has lost both bets.
5. Resplit (repeated division). In some casinos the following rule is authorized. If the player has divided the first identical cards (Split) and receives the third card of the same rank to one of them, it can divide and new formed pair.
Example: We will assume first two cards of the player are 6 and 6. The action of the player is Split. Further, to one of the cards the dealer hands over 6. The action of the player: Resplit. The player has three separate playing hands provided with three identical bets. Thus, the player can win under 3, 2 or 1 bet or to lose under all three bets.
6. Insurance. We will assume that the first open card of the dealer is an Ace. Insurance is offered to the player. If the player accepts the insurance, he adds half of the initial bet. The insurance is paid to the player 2 to 1 if the closed card of the dealer is 10 (in the sum - blackjack). Thus, the player, having lost the initial bet, returns it, having received the insurance. If the closed card is not ten, the insurance is lost, the dealer takes away half of the bet and the game proceeds. The player has the right to refuse the insurance.
7. Surrender (delivery). We will assume that the first two cards of the player do not inspire optimism. The player considers that a probable outcome is loss. Then he has the right to refuse the game. In that case it loses half of the initial bet.
Example: First two cards of the player are 7 and 9, the sum is 16 and the dealer has an Ace. If the player takes one more card, the most probable outcome is too many points. If Stand chances of the dealer to receive the sum from 17 to 21 are rather great. Therefore it is possible to appear from game. If the initial bet is $20, the player receives $10.
II. The actions of the dealer
The rules of the gambling house limit actions of the dealer:
- If the dealer has a combination of cards, which gives a sum of points less or equal to 16, the dealer is obligated to take one more card.
- If the dealer has a combination of cards, which gives the sum of 17 or more points (not more than 21), the dealer does not hand over to him a card.
The dealer communicates with players by means of gestures:
- the dealer leads round with the hand the betting area - the offer to players to make bets.
- the dealer repeatedly leads round with the hand the betting area - an interdiction for installation of bets.
- the dealer directs with the index finger towards the player or its cards - a question:
Hit or Stand.
Attention! Rules of Blackjack can differ a little in various gambling houses, therefore before to sit down around a playing table (Blackjack) you should specify all nuances by the dealer.
